Today, there are several websites that play audio or video automatically – sometimes causing users to be surprised. Some web browsers have previously included support to prevent audio from being played automatically, and now Mozilla is expected to do the same via Firefox.

Through Firefox Nightly, Mozilla has now started testing the option to mute the audio rather than being played automatically.

From the demonstrated demo, the user can set options on the settings page to either request permission first, or prevent it automatically.

Currently, this feature is still being tested at the Firefox Nightly rating, and it may take several weeks before being implemented on a stable version of Firefox.
